Thomas Alan Mathews

Thomas Alan Mathews was born on August 17, 1948 in Elmira, New York to Melvin Randolph and Joyce Lucille (Black) Mathews. Oldest of three sons; John Scott(now deceased) and Douglas Blair, living in Casselberry , Florida. Tom graduated in 1966 from Naples(FL) High School, and graduated from University of Florida wit a B.A. in Journalism in 1970. Tom worked as a Sports Journalist for the Fort Myers News-Press; Montgomery(AL) Advertiser and the Birmingham News. In 1981, Tom became Director of Public Relations for Bessemer Carraway Medical Center staying there for over 20 years.

In 1978, Tom married the love of his life, Kathy Corlew. They were married for over 38 years until Kathy’s unfortunate passing in 2016. They had a great love of college football, Civil War and World War II history, and travelling, especially to New Orleans. They were caretakers of at least fourteen cats and dogs over the years.

Tom will be missed for his quick wit ,detailed storytelling with great Irish humor and an absolutely wonderful laugh.

A celebration of Tom’s Life will be held March 19th, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Albans Episcopal Church, 429 Cloudland Dr., Hoover, Alabama 35226
