Seminole, Orange, Osceola police reporting scams

Multiple law enforcement agencies across Seminole, Orange, and Osceola counties are reporting a new series of scams targeting local residents.

The Sanford Police Department is reporting a number of door-to-door scams occurring in their area. Sanford police are advising residents to avoid companies that are going “door-to-door offering estimates and soliciting work” in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian. Police say most of the companies are unlicensed and are looking to “take advantage of trusting people in need of help after the storm.”

Belle Isle Police Department says it has received multiple reports from citizens regarding a variety of scams. Those include scam calls from individuals claiming to be IRS representatives, relatives, the police, or warrantors for computers. Police advise that the IRS will not contact individuals by phone, that warrants summons are issued via mail and not by phone, and to be suspicious of anyone asking for sensitive information over the phone.

St. Cloud Police Department says it received a call on Monday, October 31, from a resident who said they were contacted by a scammer posing as the police department. The phone number in the caller ID showed as a valid phone number for the department. The scammer told the victim that he was a suspect in a fraud investigation and that a warrant for his arrest would be issued if he didn’t comply. If you receive a similar call, hang up and call the SCPD non-emergency line at 407-891-6700.
