An Ocoee man was killed while working at a job site along Narcoossee Road early this morning after he and another worker were struck by a vehicle.
The fatal accident took place around 2:30 a.m. this morning in an active construction zone near the intersection of Narcoossee Road and Emerson Lake Boulevard.
According to press release from the Florida Highway Patrol, traffice traveling southbound on the road had to temporarily travel in the left, northbound lane and then back into the southbound lanes.
Two construction workers on the scene on behalf of Flash-Rite Inc, set up the lane closure and traffic shift for the project. The workers had positioned their trucks at the beginning of the traffic shift in the southbound lanes and were standing outside of their vehicles.
A 26-year old Orlando man driving a sedan southbound on Narcoosee Road failed to drive within the traffic shift and struck the construction workers’ vehicles, which hit and projected one of the workers. That man was pronounced decease on the scene.
After crashing into the the workers’ vehicles, the sedan continued into the northbound lane and struck a pickup truck being driven by a 34-year-old Orlando woman.
According to police, the 26-year-old man exited his vehicle and fled into a marsh along the west shoulder of Narcoosee Road. Two Florida Agriculture Officers that were working off-duty for the construction company were able to locate the driver. He was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.
The other worker that was struck was transported to the hospital with serious injuries, and the 34-year-old woman received minor injuries in the crash.
According to authorities, charges are pending and the crash investigation is ongoing.Â
