Robert M. Blauvelt

Robert M. Blauvelt 99, of Smithtown, New York passed away on Tuesday July 5, 2022Beloved husband to Dorothy (nee Kelly) who died in 1994. Loving Father of Robert W. who died in 2011. He is survived by daughter Diane, Grandsons James and Jason, and Great grandchildren Matthew, Kelly, Kevin, Emily and Allison.

Robert grew up in Queens, and in May 1943 was inducted into the Army Air Force. He was stationed in England where he prepared aircraft for combat as they arrived in the theater of operations. He also trained groups of mechanics and designed mobile repair vehicles to repair or dissemble aircraft that crashed in Europe after “D” Day. He salvaged aircraft in Belgium, France, Holland, Luxemburg, and Germany. Bob returned to the U.S. and was discharged from the Army in November 1945. In 1946 he began work at Republic Aircraft Corporation in Farmingdale, New York as a material review engineer working on F-84 and F-105 aircraft. He later went to work for Grumman Aerospace Corporation where he worked on the Lunar Lander and F-14 Navy fighter. Bob retired in 1988 splitting his time between Long Island and Florida. He was a proud life member of the Volunteer & Exempt Fireman’s Benevolent Association and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Bob loved to Socialize and spend time with his family and friends. He enjoyed

traveling the world, playing golf and boating on the Long Island Sound. He loved his family and the work that he did. He often reminisced about the amazing projects he took part in during his aerospace career. A full life, lived well, by one of the last of an amazing generation.
