A 29-year-old Orlando man will spend the next two years behind bars for robbing a postal carrier who was delivering mail.
Defario Antoine Evans was sentenced by Middle District of Florida Judge Paul G. Byron on Thursday to two years in federal prison for robbery of a postal carrier, after pleading guilty earlier this Spring.
On June 23, 2018, Evans approached a United States Postal Service worker as the carrier was delivering mail in Orlando. Evans demanded that the postal carrier give him the postal key and, after a brief verbal exchange, motioned his left arm behind his back.
The postal carrier interpreted the action as Evans implying that he had a weapon and complied with all of Evans demands as a result. According to court records, Evans eventually grabbed the keys away from postal carrier.
The case was investigated by the United States Postal Inspection Service.
