Seminole and Volusia County schools will close for the rest of the week in preparation for Tropical Storm Nicole, which is scheduled to make landfall in Florida on Wednesday.
The school districts made the announcement on Tuesday that, due to Tropical Storm Nicole, there will be no school-sponsored activities on Wednesday, November 9, and Thursday, November 10.
In both counties, multiple schools will be opened as shelters. That includes Hinson Middle School, Heritage Middle School for the Special Needs, Creekside Middle School, and University High School in Volusia County. Officials in Seminole County say they will prepare two schools with a possible third on standby as shelters. The schools have not been specified.
School officials say the two days will be made up during the second semester of the school year.
Schools across the area were already scheduled to have Friday, November 11 off, due to Veterans’ Day.
“Once the storm has passed, and shelters have been cleared, we will send updated communications to our families regarding the reopening of schools,” reads a statement from SCPS.
