Tropical Storm Nicole weakening, moving out of Central Florida

Tropical Storm Nicole has weakened to sustained winds near 50 mph, with storm-force winds extending a 100 miles less than they did just 24 hours ago.

The National Hurricane Center is reporting that as of 10 a.m., Tropical Storm Nicole is currently moving west-northwest across the state at 16 mph. The storm is currently positioned approximately 60 miles west-southwest of Orlando.

Tropical Storm Nicole is projected to continue to move across west central Florida this morning and emerge over the far northeastern Gulf of Mexico this afternoon.

The storm is expected to weaken to a depression over Georgia tonight before it moves through the southeastern United States on Friday.

Currently, maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph, with storm-force winds extending outward up to 345 miles from the center. Earlier today, the NOAA Coastal Marine Automated Station in Saint Augustine reported 10-minute average winds of 52 mph.
