A 65-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed while he was attempting to cross U.S. Highway 1 on Wednesday.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the fatal accident took place near the intersection of U.S. Highway 1 and Broadway Boulevard on Wednesday, November 23 at around 5:55 p.m.
A 47-year-old man from Cocoa was driving a 2003 Chevy Silverado southbound on U.S. Highway 1 in the outside lane, approaching Broadway Boulevard.
The pedestrian, who was from Cocoa Beach, was walking in an easterly direction and entered the southbound lane of U.S. Hwy 1. The man was not in a marked crosswalk, according to FHP.
The man entered the direct path of the pickup truck and was struck. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the pickup was not injured in the crash and remained on-scene.
