A man was killed after the van he was operating crashed into a drainage ditch and went airborne into a retention pond in south Orlando.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers are currently investigating the fatal crash that took place on Sunday, December 4, at around 11:50 p.m. near the intersection of Exchange Drive and President’s Drive in Orange County.
According to police, the man, who has not been identified by police, was traveling southbound on Exchange Drive and entered a left curve. The vehicle failed to negotiate the curve and traveled off the roadway and onto the west shoulder.
The vehicle traveled across the west shoulder and into a drainage ditch before it became airborne and collided with the far side of the ditch. The vehicle then overturned and came to rest upside down in a retention pond.
Local emergency crews responded shortly thereafter and attended to the driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle at the time of the crash. The driver was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
