Nine Magic players suspended for on-court altercation with Detroit Pistons

Nine players from the Orlando Magic received suspensions for their roles in an on-court altercation with players from the Detroit Pistons earlier this week.

On Thursday, the National Basketball Association announced the suspensions of eleven total players from both teams less than 24 hours after a brawl broke out at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.

Orlando Magic center Moritz Wagner has been suspended two games without pay, while Cole Anthony, R.J. Hampton, Gary Harris, Kevon Harris, Admiral Schofield, Franz Wagner, Mo Bamba, and Wendell Carter have each been suspended one game without pay for leaving the bench area during the on-court altercation.

The incident occurred with 33.2 seconds remaining in the second quarter of Wednesday’s matchup between the teams. Moritz Wagner pushed Detroit Pistons’ guard Killian Hayes into the Detroit bench as the two players were pursuing a loose ball. Pistons guard Hamidou Diallo then pushed Wagner from behind, before Hayes punched Wagner in the back of the head. Wagner was assessed a flagrant foul 2 and ejected, while both Hayes and Diallo were given technical fouls and ejected.

Hayes was suspended three games without pay, while Diallo has been suspended for one game without pay.

Wagner’s two-game suspension begins on Friday, when the Magic play host to the Washington Wizards.

The one-game suspensions issued to the eight Magic players for leaving the bench area during the altercation will be served on a staggered basis to ensure that Orlando has eight healthy players available to play in its next two games. As a result, Anthony, Bamba, Carter, Jr., Hampton, and Gary Harris will serve their suspensions on Friday, while the remaining players will serve their suspensions on January 4, when the Magic play the Thunder.
