Walt Disney World announced the opening date for a new TRON ride opening at Magic Kingdom later this year.
Billed as “one of the fastest coasters at any Disney theme park in the world,” TRON Lightcycle/Run will officially open to the public on April 4. The attraction will be located in Tomorrowland at Disney’s Magic Kingdom Park.
The roller coaster will take riders on a quest across the Grid, which is a dark, computerized world with no horizons depicted in the TRON film series.
Each rider will board a Lightcycle and race against the Grid’s “most menacing Programs.”
The ride is inspired by the 1982 film TRON, which has spawned multiple video games, comic books, an animated series, and the 2010 sequel TRON: Legacy.
Disney recently announced the closure of its Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster for upgrades. The ride is expected to reopen this summer.
Last month, the new DuckTales World Showcase Adventure went live at EPCOT.
This month, the company will officially close down Splash Mountain after 33 years to make way for a new attraction inspired by The Princess and the Frog.
