A 29-year-old man from Enterprise was caught by Volusia County police after he led them on a high-speed chase, ditched his vehicle, and attempted to hide in the woods.
Kyle Bellantoni was arrested after attempting to outrun Volusia County Sheriff’s Office Air One for around 30 minutes on Friday, January 13.
According to police, Bellantoni’s vehicle was alerted on by a license plate reader in DeLand just before 4 p.m.
At the time, Bellantoni was wanted on charges of violation of probation for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated stalking, and domestic battery.
After alerting on the tag, deputies began looking for the grey, Dodge Challenger that Bellantoni was driving.
He was spotted a short time later by Air One, the helicopter operated by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
The helicopter followed the car as it weaved in and out of traffic through the DeLand area, entering oncoming traffic lanes and putting other motorists at risk.
After nearly 30 minutes, Bellantoni stopped the vehicle in a wooded area south of Walts Avenue before exiting and fleeing into nearby woods.
Infrared video shows Bellantoni appearing to lay down and hiding from Air One behind a tree. After a brief time, he appears to run through thick brushes as deputies and a K-9 unit close in on his hiding spot.
Bellantoni eventually emerged from the treeline with his hands up and was taken into custody without further incident.
Authorities transported Bellantoni to a local hospital for treatment of an apparent medical episode, before transporting him to the Volusia County Branch Jail, where he is currently incarcerated on no bond.
