One carjacking suspect is on the run and another has been arrested after he was involved in multiple accidents in Seminole County with a car the two allegedly stole outside of a smoke shop in Deltona.
Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to High Spirits Smoke Shop on Thursday, January 19, at around 8:30 p.m. after a customer reported that his 2022 Kia Forte was stolen by a man wearing a ski mask.
The victim’s girlfriend was in the vehicle at the time of the robbery. After driving a short distance, the masked suspect slowed the vehicle enough for the girlfriend to jump out of the car while it was moving. The girlfriend sustained minor injuries to her foot and knee from falling on the pavement, but declined medical attention.
Deputies were able to identify the suspects involved in the theft as 19-year-old Kenneth Ocasio and 19-year-old Tristan Daniels.
On Monday, January 23, the stolen vehicle was recovered in Seminole County after Daniels was involved in two separate traffic crashes while driving it. Daniels was taken into custody on multiple warrants. In addition to carjacking and false imprisonment charges, Daniels faces a possession of firearm by a delinquent charge for allegedly attempting to sell a handgun while he was at the smoke shop where the theft occurred.
Daniels was also charged with two counts of leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, two counts of reckless driving, and possession of marijuana over 20 grams, among other charges.
Police have not yet tracked down Ocasio, who is wanted on charges of carjacking and false imprisonment.
Law enforcement is asking anyone with knowledge of the incidents in question or the whereabouts of Kenneth Ocasio to contact 911, or the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office at 386-736-5961.
