Orlando police provided more details on a shooting in Carver Shores that left multiple people dead over Easter weekend, including a veteran mother of four and a teenager.
During a press conference on Wednesday, April 12, Orlando Police Department Patrick Cavanaugh provided an update on the shootout that took place on Lescot Lane on Sunday, April 9.
According to Cavanaugh, traffic had been stopped along Lescot Lane for an event that drew a large group of people.
While stopped in traffic on Lescot Lane just before 7 p.m., an adult driver of a purple Lamborghini, later identified as 38-year-old Jamal Watson, got into a verbal altercation with a pedestrian.
As the argument escalated, Watson and the pedestrian, who was later identified as 16-year-old Tristan Morgan, began exchanging gunfire with each other.
Both men, as well as three women who were participating in the event on the north side of Lescot Lane, were all struck by gunfire.
Morgan was located a short time later in Poppy Park with a gunshot wound. He succumbed to his injuries.
Watson was transported to the hospital, where he also died from his injuries.
One of the women who was struck by gunfire, 33-year-old Patriza Deterville, was transported to a local hospital, where she died from her injuries.
The other two women were also transported to a hospital for treatment. One of the women was discharged later that evening, while the other was in stable condition as of Wednesday.
Over the past several days, police have dispelled false rumors posted on social media that incorrectly indicated that the incident included the passing of a toddler.
Deterville, who was a mother of four children and served in the U.S. Army, had just lost her mother this past November.
Detectives are still working to obtain all factual and investigative information regarding the incident. If you have any information that may help police in this case, please contact the Central Florida Crimeline at 800-423-8477.
