Teen posts Instagram story of stolen gun in middle school bathroom, arrested by Volusia police

A 15-year-old was arrested at a Deltona middle school after police obtained an Instagram video showing him flashing a gun in a school bathroom.

Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Isaiah Jones of Deltona earlier this week following an investigation into an Instagram story that he posted.

Deputies were notified on Tuesday night about an Instagram story showing off a gun inside a bathroom at Galaxy Middle School, which is located at 2400 Eustace Avenue in Deltona. Police were able to identify both Jones and another student who participated in the story.

In the video, Jones is seen pointing a handgun at the camera, removing the magazine, and showing that it contained at least one round of ammunition.

When confronted by police, Jones admitted to recording the video in the restroom, but said it was recorded in the past.

Authorities believe the gun is a 9mm firearm that was stolen during a recent car burglary in Deltona. According to police, the owner of the gun told deputies that he discovered it missing from his vehicle’s glove box on May 5. The owner told police that he believed the vehicle was locked, but said he wasn’t sure and that the vehicle showed no signs of forced entry.

Jones is being charged with bringing a gun on campus, with additional charges pending. He is the second juvenile defendant arrested for a stolen gun in the past week.

Last week, a 13-year-old boy in Daytona was arrested with a stolen gun and charged with committing multiple car break-ins in the area. That gun was discovered by the boy’s mother during a search of her home.
