Universal opening new ‘Minion Land’ this summer

Universal Orlando provided a preview of its new Minion Land, which opens later this summer.

On Wednesday, the theme park released photo renderings and additional details on the new area, which will occupy an entire street.

Minion Land will be anchored by Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast, an all-new attraction that will equip riders with blasters to battle Belle Bottom, Jean Clawed, and the rest of the “Vicious 6” popularized in the film franchise. The attraction joins Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem, which opened over a decade ago.

The new section will also feature multiple dining options, including Minion Café and Bake My Day, which will sell baked goods and sweet treats. The area will also feature Freeze Ray Pops and Pop-A-Nana, a sweet and savory popcorn shop.

In addition to the attractions and dining options, Minion Land will feature Evil Stuff and Super Silly Stuff gift shops to sell apparel, toys, and souvenirs from the film franchise. Fans looking for photos or sing-alongs will characters will have the opportunity to do so at Illumination Theater.

Minion Land joins a growing list of changes at Universal Orlando and Islands of Adventure, including the closure of Poseidon’s Fury earlier this month.

In December, the park introduced its first escape rooms, and earlier this year, Universal Parks and Resorts Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Mark Woodbury announced that the park was working on Super Nintendo Land.
