The Orlando Magic acquired two new players during last night’s draft, including one who is the son of a former NBA All-Star.
On Thursday evening, the Magic made their much anticipated selections in the 2023 NBA Draft, selecting three players and trading one to the Milwaukee Bucks.
With the sixth overall pick in the draft, the team selected Anthony Black, a point guard who played his college basketball at Arkansas. Black was a five-star recruit in high school and, during his one and only season in college, he averaged 12.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 2.1 steals, and .6 blocks in 34.9 minutes per game.
Due to a trade with the Chicago Bulls during the 2021 season, the Magic also held the 11th pick during the draft. The team used that pick to select Jett Howard, who is the some of former NBA All-Star Juwan Howard. Howard played one season at Michigan, where he was coached by his father, and averaged 14.2 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in 31.7 minutes per game.
Both selections by the Magic are 19 years old, adding to the youngest roster in the NBA.
The Magic used their third pick (#36) in the draft to select Andre Jackson, Jr., who was traded to the Bucks for a 2030 second-round pick and cash considerations.
The new players will be able to showcase their talents alongside their teammates later this season during the NBA 2K24 Summer League. That league takes place in Las Vegas and will begin playing games on July 7.
