Receptionist stole $44,000 from patients at eye clinic, police say

A woman who worked as a receptionist at a Winter Springs eye clinic is being accused of stealing over $44,000 from dozens of patients by diverting funds into her own Square account.

Angelina Mena was arrested on Friday, July 21, and booked into the Orange County Jail on multiple felony charges.

According to authorities, the Winter Springs Police Department was contacted by MacDonald Family EyeCare in March 2022 regarding a potential case of fraud involving one of their receptionists.

The business says that while she was employed with the organization, Mena allegedly illegally used patients’ credit card information to commit credit card fraud.

During their investigation, police found that she had used her own Square account to steal approximately $44,000 from 76 patients.

Investigators filed charges with the State Attorney’s Office and an arrest warrant was issued for her arrest.

No additional details were provided regarding her arrest, and court records were not available at the time of this writing.
