Ex-boyfriend arrested for killing pregnant, teenage mother who refused abortion

Sanford police have arrested an ex-boyfriend who they believe fatally shot an 18-year-old, pregnant mother because she refused to get an abortion.

On Tuesday, the Sanford Police Department Neighborhood Response Unit located and arrested Donovan Faison, 21, after a multi-month investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Kaylin Fiengo.

Fiengo was found on November 11, 2022, by a Sanford Police Officer who was patrolling the area of Coastline Park, located at 900 W 9th Street. The officer found a vehicle that was backed into a parking spot and located Fiengo’s body in the driver’s seat of the vehicle.

Fiengo was dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

Law enforcement authorities later confirmed that Fiengo was pregnant. At the time of her death, she was estimated to be at the end of her first trimester.

During the course of their investigation, Sanford detectives determined that Fiengo went to Coastline Park the night of the homicide to meet her ex-boyfriend, Faison.

In the weeks before the homicide, Fiengo and Faison had multiple arguments about Fiengo’s pregnancy, according to police. Detectives say that Faison wanted Fiengo to terminate the pregnancy, and that Fiengo’s refusal to do so was the “probable motive for the homicide.”

“Today’s events come after a long, almost ten months, of an exhaustive investigation. Our investigators have made sure every possible shred of evidence was processed and analyzed in order to bring Kaylin’s killer to justice,” said Sanford Police Chief Cecil Smith in a statement. “This beautiful, young woman and mother was taken from this world far too soon, and in a horrific way.”

Faison is being charged with two counts of felony homicide for the death of Fiengo and her unborn child. He is currently being held on no bond at the John E. Polk Correctional Facility.

Anyone with additional information about this investigation is asked to contact the Sanford Police Department at 407-688-5070, or the Central Florida Crimeline at 800-423-8477.
