An Orlando teenager who was standing next to a parked car was killed after he was struck by a driver who drove into a building before fleeing the scene on foot.
The fatal accident occurred on Sunday, September 17, at around 3:43 a.m., according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
The 19-year-old Orlando man was standing on the sidewalk near the Henao Contemporary Center, next to a parked vehicle on Edgewater Drive.
For unknown reasons, a 20-year-old Orlando man who was traveling northbound on Edgewater Drive in a 2005 Ford Expedition lost control of his vehicle and ran off the right side of the roadway.
the vehicle ran into a pole, collided with the building, rotated clockwise, struck another pole, and continued rotating until it collided with the pedestrian and the parked vehicle, a 2019 Jeep Cherokee.
The pedestrian was transported to AdventHealth Orlando, where he was pronounced deceased.
Another individual who was within the community center was injured after they were struck by debris. That individual, a 22-year-old Orlando woman, was transported to AdventHealth Orlando with minor injuries.
After the collision, the driver of the Ford, 20-year-old Alexis Omar Leon Lima, fled the scene on-foot. According to witnesses, Lima and several others fled westbound on Edgewater Drive, towards John Young Parkway.
Hours later, Lima was found by authorities and was taken into custody on charges of leaving the scene of a crash involving death, leaving the scene of a crash involving injuries, and driving without a license causing death.
