Alene Jones Baker, 77, passed away surrounded by her loving family on October 26, 2023 after a brief hospitalization.

Born on November 2, 1945 in Alachua, Florida to Richard Alton and Georgia Dee Jones. Alene grew up on a family-run production farm. She attended Santa Fe High School and shortly after graduation in 1963, moved to Orlando and completed her degree in x-ray technology from Orange Memorial Hospital.

In 1969, she met the love of her life, Dr. Norton Baker, while working alongside him. They married in 1970 and had two wonderful children. Alene became a devoted homemaker for her family, while also becoming involved in Junior League, serving as the PTA President for her children’s school, volunteered at the After-School Program, was a Deacon at First Presbyterian Church of Orlando, and a member of the Rosalind Club. She was also an accomplished golfer, a talented watercolor artist, and a published author. She attended Rollins College and earned a Bachelor of Psychology degree in 2001.

Alene and Norton traveled extensively and enjoyed trips with friends all over the world. They visited Scotland, Ireland, Germany, France and Australia. She enjoyed creating photo journals of all her trips and often gave copies to those she traveled with.

She was the world’s best “Mimmy” – her grandchildren adored her. She taught them to cook, to paint, she held tea parties, sleepovers, and taught each one how to drive on the backroads leading to Alachua.

She was an amazing cook and baker – she made homemade cakes for every birthday for her children, grandchildren, and dear friends. She was the protector and steward of favorite family recipes.

Alene was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and a loyal and steadfast friend to all who knew her. She is survived by her daughter Amy B. Orzo (Neil), son Bradley P. Baker, granddaughters Macie and Emmy Severson, grandson Jacob Baker, bonus granddaughter, Bella Orzo, and sister Linda J. Pope of Scottsdale, AZ, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Norton M. Baker, her step-son Mason Baker, her brother Calvin B. Jones, and sister Carol J. Johnson.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 17, 2023 at 11 a.m., with a reception to follow at First Presbyterian Church of Orlando.
