Chassy DuEwa Fowler was born to Ruth Carletha Clark and David Burl Fowler, Jr. in Orlando, Florida on December 31, 1972. The name Chassy means “pure” and the name DuEwa in Swahili means “Black Beauty, Beautiful Black Queen” and it was truly appropriate for this stunning baby girl.

She grew up in Maitland and Orlando, Florida, surrounded in love by her family and friends. She learned to love and respect her elders by spending time in her early years with her great-grandmother, Gertrude Brown Collins, great-grandmother Lillie Charlton and grandmother Barbara Filmore.

Chassy attended Princeton Elementary School in Orlando, Florida and graduated from Jones High School in Orlando in 1990. After high school, she completed courses at Valencia Community College, Mid Florida Tech and Seminole State College. Her infectious smile and charismatic personality helped her to make friends easily.

Throughout her life, these friendships became her extended family and created a circle of loyalty, support, laughter and wonderful memories. Over the years, they affectionately called her “Blu” because of the blue contact lenses she loved to wear. Those who knew her well could often expect her call where she might say, “Hey there! How’re you doing?” or “What do you need? I’ll be right there!” She was generous in heart, mind and spirit and anything she had, she would share with those around her.

At her time of transition, Chassy was single with no children.

She is preceded in death by: her Father, David Burl Fowler, Jr.; her Sister, LaShaurne Y. Fowler; Great-Great-Grandmother, Gertrude Brown Collins; Grandfathers, Reverend L.C. Clark and David B. Fowler, Sr.; Great-Grandmother, Lillie Charlton; Grandmother, Anne M. Key; Great-Aunt, Beulah R. Jones; Aunt, Theresa Simpson.

The Lord in His infinite wisdom deemed it timely to call our beloved Chassy DuEwa Fowler from our midst on December 4, 2023. Her departure is truly a deep and personal loss to her family and friends, and she will be greatly missed by us all.

Chassy leaves to cherish her legacy: her Mother, Ruth Carletha Fowler of Orlando, Florida; her Sisters, Candis Fowler Newsome of Atlanta, Georgia, Charde Fowler and Charo Fowler, of Orlando, Florida; her Grandmother, Barbara Filmore, of Orlando, Florida; Aunts, Robin Fuse of Orlando, Florida, April F.
