The Florida Highway Patrol is in search of a vehicle and driver responsible for a fatal hit-and-run crash in Osceola County last month that claimed the life of a bicyclist.
The fatal accident took place on February 12, near the intersection of Poinciana Boulevard and State Road 535/Vineland Road in Kissimmee.
According to FHP, sometime before 9:35 p.m. on that day, the suspected vehicle was traveling eastbound on Poinciana Boulevard, approaching State Road 535 in the outside lane.
The driver failed to maintain a single lane and drifted towards the outside shoulder, striking a bicyclist who was also traveling eastbound on Poinciana Boulevard.
After the collision, the vehicle fled the scene. The bicyclist, a 48-year-old man from Kissimmee, was transported to HCA Florida Osceola Hospital in critical condition at the time.
On February 23, the man died from the injuries he sustained during the accident.
Traffic homicide investigators working on behalf of FHP believe the vehicle involved was possibly a 2011 Hyundai Elantra. The suspected vehicle would have damage to its front right.
Law enforcement authorities are asking the public for help to locate the vehicle. Anyone with information about this incident, including mechanics or auto body shops that may have repaired a vehicle matching the above description, is asked to contact FHP at 407-737-2213 or the Central Florida Crimeline at 800-423-8477.
