Sandy Mellen

Sandy Mellen 82, passed away peacefully in Winter Park, FL on March 5, 2024. Sandy was born on October 5,1941 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Charles A. Koch and Audra Llewellyn Koch.

Sandy is survived by her loving husband Robert T. Mellen, Jr., her children, Lori Denise Mellen (Richard Smith); Scott Robert Mellen (Tonya Sibert), grandchildren, Arden Haley Smith, Adam Charles Smith (Carley Jean Smith), Laine Kendall Smith, Jessica Louise Mellen, Miranda Jo Mellen and Alician Jean Mellen.

Sandy graduated from Fort Lauderdale High School in 1959. She was a Varsity Cheerleader and Homecoming Queen. In 1963 she graduated from Stetson University with a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in elementary education. Sandy was a member of the Delta-Delta- Delta sorority while attending college.

For 28 years, Sandy taught 3rd. grade at Park Maitland School, where she touched many children’s lives. In addition to teaching, Sandy worked with Bob at their business, Melco Nurseries Inc, in Apopka, Florida. While she was very occupied with work Sandy found time to volunteer with the Orlando/Winter Park Junior League, Orlando Rowing Club, member of All Saints Episcopal Church and co-founded the flower guild at St. Richard’s Episcopal Church. At home, Sandy was an avid bird watcher, orchid grower, and incredible cook. Sandy was an amazing wife, mother, and friend. Her smile and charismatic personality lit up every room like a bright sunny day.

Memorial services will be on April 11, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at All Saints Episcopal Church, 338 E. Lyman Ave in Winter Park, Florida with a reception to follow.
