A 68-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder after a male victim he allegedly shot in Orange County on Monday morning died at a local hospital.
On Monday, March 25, at around 5:20 a.m., Orange County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the area of 24th Street and Lee Street in reference to a shooting incident. When deputies arrived on scene, they found a man, identified as 43-year-old Lionel Nelson, Jr., who had been shot, according to OCSO.
The victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
On the day of the shooting, OCSO detectives identified Jesse James Hill as a suspect, and he was placed under arrest and transported to Orange County Jail. He was originally charged with attempted second-degree murder.
After Hill was taken into custody, the victim died from his injuries. Hill is now being charged with second-degree murder with a firearm.
In an update on Wednesday afternoon, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office stated that the investigation is still “active and ongoing.”
