Carroll Elizabeth Dunn

Carroll Elizabeth Dunn was a kind, caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She left this world to be with the Lord on April 17, 2024 at the age of 79.

She was born to William Carroll “Bill” and Sarah Elizabeth Fagan on January 16, 1945 in Portsmouth, Virginia where Bill was stationed in the Merchant Marines during the war. Carroll is the oldest of three siblings including a sister, Mary Teresa DeAngelis of Wilmington, North Carolina, and a brother William Robert “Bobby” Fagan of Louisburg, North Carolina.

Carroll grew up in Darden’s, NC., living and occasionally working on the family farm. She attended Jamesville High School and after graduation attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill earning a bachelor’s degree in education in 1967. During that time she met the love of her life, Wiley Ernest Dunn III, they married June 18, 1967 in Williamston, North Carolina. Wiley had already been living and working at Cape Canaveral, so the couple relocated to Merritt Island, Florida where Carroll taught elementary school focusing on special education.

After the birth of her sons Wiley Ernest Dunn IV in 1968 and Bradley Stuart Dunn in 1972, Carroll stayed home to focus on their upbringing while substitute teaching and working at a framing and art gallery. Carroll lived most of her adult years in Sarasota, Florida and San Diego, California before retiring with Wiley to Longwood, Florida to once again be closer to family.

Carroll was intelligent, inquisitive, optimistic, and compassionate. She loved her family and took great pride in her husband and children’s successes. She was a source of strength, empathy, tenderness and humor for her family and many friends – her warm and outgoing personality was a defining characteristic. Her interest in culture took her to Europe, Asia, Australia and elsewhere with her husband Wiley where she found great memories and experiences to share with her family and friends.

Closer to home Carroll volunteered her time between St. Johns United Methodist Church teaching Sunday School and working in the Church Office and she was a Sister in the P.E.O, Philanthropic Educational Organization, focusing on the needs of women in the community. Carroll was also an excellent pianist, performing in the St. John’s choir and for the enjoyment of others. The joy that she brought lives on in the memories of those who knew and loved her.

Carroll passed away peacefully at her home in Longwood, Florida early in the morning of April 17th, surrounded by her family. Even though her illness took away her memories here on her Earth, it could not take her spirit which will live in the hearts of those she touched and the family takes comfort knowing that her strong faith and commitment to Christ will be rewarded with life eternal.

Carroll is survived by her husband Wiley Ernest Dunn III of Longwood, Florida; son Wiley Ernest Dunn IV and spouse Elizabeth Dunn with grandchildren William Edward Dunn and Matthew Alexander Dunn of Apex, North Carolina; son Bradley Stuart Dunn and spouse Karen Monte Dunn of Maitland, Florida with grandchildren Jordan Stuart Dunn of Winter Springs, Florida and Aubrey Caroline Dunn of Maitland, Florida.
