Man shot, killed by Altamonte Springs police officers

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Winter Park that left one man dead on Friday afternoon.

At around 12:50 p.m. on Friday, August 23, Altamonte Springs Police Department officers were investigating an unspecified felony crime when they located a “suspect vehicle” being driven by Richard Phillip Randall, according to ASPD.

The police department stated that the car stopped in the roadway near the 900 block of Wymore Road in Winter Park, and Randall “abruptly jumped out” of the vehicle. He then allegedly ran towards the officers while carrying an “unknown object” in his hands.

The officers fired multiple shots at Randall, striking him. They then provided lifesaving measures as paramedics rushed to the scene.

When paramedics arrived, Randall was transported to a local hospital, where he died from his gunshot wounds.

“The Winter Park Police Department will be investigating any potential crimes that occurred in their jurisdiction,” stated ASPD on social media.

The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave pending the results of the FDLE investigation, per standard procedure.

No further details were provided by the Altamonte Springs Police Department.
