A Volusia County resident recently claimed a $1 million top prize from a scratch-off ticket that was sold at a local grocery store.

On Friday, February 28, the Florida Lottery announced that 66-year-old Edgewater resident John Sinclair recently visited its headquarters in Tallahassee to claim a $1 million prize from the JEOPARDY! scratch-off game.

Sinclair chose to receive his winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $640,000.

The winning ticket was purchased by Sinclair at the Winn-Dixie located at 1838 S Ridgewood Avenue in Edgewater. The retailer received a $2,000 bonus commission for selling the winning scratch-off ticket.

The JEOPARDY! scratch-off game costs $5 and offers more than $64 million in total cash prizes, including 10 top prizes of $1 million. The game’s overall odds of winning are 1-in-3.86, according to the Florida Lottery.

Earlier this week, lottery officials announced several big winners, including a 36-year-old Central Florida man who turned $50 into $1 million and an Orlando man who purchased a $1 million winning scratch-off ticket from a local 7-Eleven.
