The Daytona Beach Fire Department is mourning the loss of one of their firefighters who was killed in a motor vehicle crash while off-duty.

“It is with profound sorrow and heavy hearts we announce the passing of Daytona Beach Firefighter Richard Crapps,” said DBFD in a social media post on Saturday, March 1.

Crapps was a Daytona Beach native who began serving the community as a firefighter on December 5, 2022.

DBFD stated that Crapps’ impact “has touched the lives of many and will carry on in our hearts.”

No further details were provided by the fire department regarding the crash that claimed the life of Crapps.

“Please keep Richard, his family, and his DBFD family in your hearts as we navigate through this difficult time,” said the Daytona Beach Fire Department.
