A 25-year-old Winter Park man was killed on Sunday night after his SUV ran a red light and struck another vehicle at an intersection in Orange County.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the fatal crash occurred shortly after 9:40 p.m. on Sunday, January 25, at the intersection of Aloma Avenue and Palmetto Avenue.

The Winter Park man was traveling eastbound on Aloma Avenue in a 1999 Honda CR-V when he approached the Palmetto Avenue intersection while in the inside lane.

Two other vehicles – a 2024 Toyota RAV4 and 2018 Toyota Corolla –  were stopped facing westbound on Aloma Avenue in the inside left turn lane.

An FHP trooper said in the report that the left turn arrow signal was green, and both Toyota vehicles were attempting to turn onto Palmetto Avenue when the Honda failed to stop for a red traffic light.

The Honda then entered the intersection, and its front left section collided with the left front section of the Toyota RAV4. After the initial impact, the Toyota RAV4 was redirected in an easterly direction before striking the Toyota Corolla.

The Honda’s driver was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The driver of the Toyota RAV4, identified in the report as a 24-year-old Orlando woman, was also taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

A 21-year-old Davenport man was driving the Toyota Corolla at the time of the accident, and he was not hurt.

The crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.
