A Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputy was shot in the leg and shoulder on Monday while investigating a battery call in a Deltona neighborhood.
On the evening of Monday, March 2, the deputy arrived at a home located at 2684 Candler Drive in Deltona after receiving reports of a battery incident. While at the residence, the deputy sustained two gunshot wounds, according to VCSO.
The deputy was transported to a local hospital.
In an update, Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood stated that that the deputy “is conscious, alert and in good enough spirits to crack jokes with the medical staff treating his injuries.”
No further details were provided by law enforcement regarding the deputy-involved shooting incident.
“[We’re] thankful our deputy is alive today and hopefully well on his way to a fast recovery,” said VCSO in a media release.
