A 27-year-old Sanford woman was killed and a 33-year-old Oviedo man was injured in a wrong-way collision on a roadway in Volusia County early Wednesday morning.
The fatal crash occurred at around 3:15 a.m. on Wednesday, March 11, near the intersection of Kepler Avenue and Mimosa Lane, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
Prior to the accident, two vehicles – identified in the report as a Ford Edge and Honda Civic – were traveling on Kepler Avenue, south of Mimosa Lane. The man was driving the Ford and the woman was behind the wheel of the Honda.
The report mentioned that the Ford was “traveling north in the southbound lane on Kepler Avenue” when its front section collided with the front of the Honda, which was heading southbound on the roadway.
The Honda’s driver sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the Ford was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
An FHP trooper noted in the report that the head-on collision remains under investigation.
