A 25-year-old Kissimmee man was killed early Friday morning after his sedan drifted into an active construction zone and slammed into the back of a parked utility truck on State Road 417 in Seminole County.
The fatal collision occurred at around 12:43 a.m. on Friday, July 10, in the northbound lanes of SR 417, just north of Aloma Avenue near mile marker 39, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
An FHP trooper noted that the Kissimmee man was traveling northbound in a 2022 Acura ILX when the vehicle left the outside lane for unknown reasons, veering into the inside lane that was closed for construction.
Upon entering the construction zone, the Acura rear-ended a 2024 Ford F-650 drill truck that was parked in the northbound inside lane.
Due to the severity of the impact, the 25-year-old driver sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The report mentioned that it is unknown if he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
No other injuries were reported, as the construction vehicle was unoccupied when the collision occurred.
The crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.
