Blue-green algae bloom caution issued for Lake Ivanhoe

Health officials have issued a blue-green algae bloom alert for Lake Ivanhoe.

The Florida Department of Health in Orange County has issued a caution for the presence of blue-green algae at Lake Ivanhoe in response to a recent site visit and water sample taken by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection on Monday, April 25.

Officials say the public should exercise caution in and around Lake Ivanhoe, and advises residents and visitors to take the following precautions:

  1. Do not drink, swim, wade, use personal watercraft, water ski or boat in waters where there is a visible bloom.
  2. Avoid getting water in your eyes, nose, or mouth
  3. Keep pets and livestock away from the waters in this location
  4. Do not eat shellfish from this location

Blue-green algae blooms can impact human health and ecosystems, including fish and other aquatic animals.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) collects and analyzes algal bloom samples. To report a bloom to FDEP, visit the organization’s bloom survey report webpage, or call the toll-free hotline at 855-305-3903.
