A 29-year-old motorcyclist was killed early Sunday morning after a head-on collision with a car that was traveling in the wrong direction on Colonial Drive.
The accident took place just after midnight on Sunday near the intersection of Lansing Street and Colonial Drive.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, a 2014 Dodge Challenger being driven by a 43-year-old Oviedo man was traveling westbound on the eastbound, inside lane of Colonial Drive.
The Challenger was traveling the wrong direction when it struck multiple vehicles that were traveling eastbound on the eastbound, inside lane of Colonial Drive. Those vehicles included a 2006 Harley Davidson being ridden by a 63-year-old Melbourne man, a 2012 Harley Davidson being ridden by a 29-year-old Merritt Island man, and a 2020 Mazda 6 being driven by a 52-year-old Cocoa Beach man.
The Merritt Island man was pronounced deceased on the scene, and the Melbourne man was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. The Cocoa Beach man was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
According to the report, the Oviedo man remained on the scene with minor injuries and the crash remains under investigation.
