Veteran kills mother, commits suicide in east Orlando with child in apartment

A child was left parentless last night after his father killed himself and the child’s mother in an east Orlando apartment while he was in the home.

According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, the murder-suicide took place at the Parke East Apartments in the 7700 block of Silver Pointe Boulevard on Monday, May 9, at around 8:25 p.m.

According to records, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a 911 call from Griggs at that time in which he stated he had killed someone and was going to commit suicide.

Deputies located the apartment and forced entry, and upon arrival, discovered the deceased bodies of Devin Anthony Griggs and Leslie Daniella Rodriguez.

According to authorities, the couple’s young child was in the home and was not harmed during the incident. The Florida Department of Children and Families responded to the scene and is coordinating care arrangements for the child.
