Traffic signal installed at Clarcona-Ocoee Road stretch that claimed five lives last year

A traffic signal has been installed at an intersection along Clarcona-Ocoee Road where five people lost their lives in an accident last year.

The new traffic signal became operational last week and was installed by the Orange County Public Works Department.

According to county records, a site analysis determined a traffic signal would improve safety at the location. The traffic engineering division accelerated the process of installing the traffic signal by using internal resources and saved nearly a year in design and construction, says county officials.

In addition to the signal, pavement markings showing the speed limit were installed approaching the intersection as well as speed feedback signs.

The public works department also conducted a speed management study along the road between Ocoee Apopka Road and U.S. 441. and cited the need for additional safety and speed reduction measures to be implemented.
