FDOT looking for feedback on $5 million roundabout plans for Orange Avenue

The Florida Department of Transportation is looking for feedback from the public about a nearly $5 million roundabout that is being proposed for a section of Orange Avenue in Orlando.

According to FDOT, the roundabout is planned for the intersection of State Road 527, Clay Avenue, and North Orange Avenue in order to provide crash reduction countermeasures.

FDOT is proposing to modify the roadway to include one travel lane and a 5-foot-wide bicycle lane in each direction with a center two-way left turn lane.

According to the organization, construction of a center, two-way left turn lane will improve safe space for drivers to pull out of traffic when they want to turn onto a side street or into a driveway.

The project would also add a second left turn lane from Orange Avenue to northbound Orlando Avenue to relieve backups at the light.

In total, the project is just over three-quarters of a mile long and is estimated to cost around $4.9 million, according to FDOT records.

A public information meeting about the project will take place on Thursday, June 9 at 5:30 p.m. The meeting may be attended virtually, with advance registration required.

To attend in person, visit the Winter Park Community Center, which is located at 721 W. New England Avenue in Winter Park, anytime between 5:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m in order to view a looping presentation and project exhibits.
