Seminole man sentenced to 15 years in 2017 fentanyl overdose

A Seminole county will spend 15 years in federal prison after a judge sentenced him this week for the 2017 overdose death of an individual to whom he sold fentanyl.

U.S. District Judge Carlos E. Mendoza has sentenced 25-year-old Timothy Leon Wilson, Jr. to 15 years behind bars for selling a mixture of furanyl fentanyl and heroin in 2017 to an individual that proceeded to overdose shortly after using the substance.

According to court documents, Seminole County Fire Department rushed the victim to the hospital, but he died shortly after arriving.

That same day, April 4, 2017, law enforcement was able to set up a controlled purchase with Wilson for additional drugs. When Wilson arrived to the location, he was in possession of the same substance that he had sold the victim earlier that day.

Wilson was arrested and admitted to selling the drugs to the victim.

The Medical Examiner confirmed that the cause of death to the victim was a heroin and furnyl fentanyl overdose, according to officials.

Furanyl fentanyl is an analogue of fentanyl and is on Schedule I of the Drug Enforcement Administrations’ schedules of controlled substances.

According to jail records, Wilson has been in custody since March 2021 and entered a guilty plea in December 2021.
