Black bear spotted in Orlando neighborhood prompting response by FWC

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission was called to a community in Orlando after a black bear was spotted by residents.

Orlando Police Department says it received several calls and messages regarding a bear sighting in Orlando on Monday afternoon. The bear was spotted in the area of Yale Street and Formosa Avenue, according to police.

“Unless you are a resident of the area of Yale Street and Formosa Avenue, please avoid the area as officers work with FWCC to retrieve the bear safely,” reads a social media post from OPD.

Law enforcement officials warned residents to stay away from the bear, whose weight and age were unknown.

“Although the bear is cute, please do not approach,” reads a social media post from OPD.

According to police, the FFWCC was called to safely retrieve the bear while officers maintained the scene.

The FFWCC says that black bears are most active in Florida throughout the late winter and spring.

If you see a black bear in your neighborhood, call the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission at 888-404-3922.
