Black bear still roaming College Park, police advising to avoid area

A black bear spotted yesterday is still roaming around College Park, prompting local law enforcement authorities to advise residents to stay away from the area.

According to the Orlando Police Department, a black bear that was originally seen in the community on Monday was spotted again on Tuesday, April 25. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission was called to the scene yesterday and is still working to safely retrieve the bear.

On Monday, Orlando Police Department received several calls and messages regarding the bear. The bear was originally spotted in the area of Yale Street and Formosa Avenue, according to police.

“Unless you are a resident of the area of Yale Street and Formosa Avenue, please avoid the area as officers work with FWCC to retrieve the bear safely,” reads a social media post from OPD. “The bear is still roaming in the area of College Park. Please do not approach.”

“Although the bear is cute, please do not approach,” reads the post from OPD.

The FFWCC says that black bears are most active in Florida throughout the late winter and spring.

If you see a black bear in your neighborhood, call the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission at 888-404-3922.
