1 dead in house fire near east Orlando park

A person was killed after a fire tore through a one-story home in east Orlando early this morning.

Orlando Fire Department units responded to reports of a fire in the 6000 block of Sextant Court early Wednesday morning.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a one-story residence with heavy fire involvement in various portions of the home. The fire was also burning through the roof, according to authorities.

After the fire was extinguished, a search of the home was conducted. During that search, one deceased individual was located.

The individual was not identified and fire crews have not yet determined the cause of the fire.

According to Orlando Fire Department Public Information Manager Annette Ponce, a smoke detector blitz will take place and additional details will be provided later today.
