Royal Rumble in Orlando? County approves $850,000 bid to incentivize WWE

Orange County officials have approved an $850,000 bid fee to incentivize the 2024 WWE Royal Rumble to be held in Orlando in January.

On Tuesday, May 2, the Orange County Board of County Commissioners approved a request by the Tourist Development Tax Sports Incentive Committee for $850,000 to be used by Visit Orlando to incentivize World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. to schedule its Royal Rumble to be held at Camping World Stadium on January 27, 2024.

Royal Rumble is a pay-per-view event that WWE has produced annually since 1988. Attendance for the one-day event is estimated to be around 53,900.

The Greater Orlando Sports commission estimates an economic impact to the region of over $28 million, as well as approximately 40,000 room nights, depending on how many WWE events are held on the days preceding and following the event.

The city of Orlando has hosted the event twice in its 35-year history, including once in 1990 at the Orlando Arena (which eventually became the TD Waterhouse, and then Amway Arena).

The event returned to Orlando’s Amway Center in 2016, with Triple H being crowned the winner. Beginning in 2018, the event began crowing both a male and female winner. The last time the event was hosted in Florida was only two years ago in 2021, when St. Petersburg hosted the event at Tropicana Field.
