Orlando SlingShot reopens over 1 year after death of 14-year-old on nearby ride

An attraction at ICON Park that was closed after the death of a 14-year-old boy on a nearby ride, has reopened to the public.

The Orlando SlingShot, which is located at 8433 International Drive in ICON Park, has officially reopened for business, over one year after closing down.

Last year, both the Orlando SlingShot and Orlando Freefall rides were closed after 14-year-old Tyre Sampson fell to his death on the ride. In October, officials announced that Orlando Freefall would permanently shut down operation.

At 300 feet tall, the Orlando SlingShot is billed as the tallest slingshot in the world and reaches speeds of 100 mph in less than a couple seconds. There is no age limit to ride the attraction, but all riders must be at least 50 inches tall.

Tickets to the ride are $35 each, with packages available for multiple riders.

The opening of the ride comes just a few months after another ride at ICON Park reopened.

In February, The Wheel at ICON Park was reopened after a multi-week shut down due to a power failure. During that incident, 62 riders were stranded on the ride and had to be rescued by Orange County Fire emergency personnel.

In March, Nekia Dodd, the mother of Tyre Sampson, settled a lawsuit that she filed against ICON Park.
