Two women killed in fatal accidents involving stopped vehicles on Turnpike

Two women were killed in separate, fatal accidents involving stopped vehicles this morning along the Florida Turnpike in Orange County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the first accident took place around 3:20 a.m. near mile marker 269. For unknown reasons, a 22-year-old Orlando woman had stopped her sedan in the right, southbound lane on the highway.

A 22-year-old man from Port Clinton was traveling in the southbound lane in a pickup truck. The man says he did not see the stopped vehicle before his pickup truck struck the back of the sedan.

The 22-year-old woman was pronounced deceased on the scene.

A road ranger responded to the accident and the right, southbound lane was closed. The road ranger enabled his pickup truck’s lights and arrow board to direct traffic into the left, southbound lane.

According to officials, around 5:00 a.m., for unknown reasons, a 32-year-old woman from Kissimmee failed to slow down and struck the road ranger’s parked pickup truck with her sedan.

The woman was transported to a local hospital where she later died.

The 28-year-old road ranger from Groveland suffered minor injuries, according to the report.

Law enforcement is currently investigating both accidents.

Per FHP policy, the names of those involved in the accidents have not been released.
