Orlando woman sped down beach, nearly hit child before DUI arrest

A 26-year-old Orlando woman was arrested for driving under the influence after witnesses reportedly saw her driving recklessly at 50 mph down a beach, nearly hitting a child and coming in close proximity to several families and dogs.

Sarah Ramsammy was arrested by Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputies on Saturday, May 27, on charges of DUI of .15 or higher and reckless driving.

According to authorities, witnesses reported a reckless driver on Saturday afternoon near Smyrna Dunes Park, which is located at 2995 N Peninsula Avenue in New Smyrna Beach.

During a conversation with deputies, Ransammy told police that she was stopped by beachgoers after they told her she “almost hit a child.”

Ransammy says she was trying to turn her vehicle around and didn’t think she could “do a U-turn around here,” so she kept driving until the vehicle became disabled.
