Orlando shop that won Cupcake Wars three times closes after rent hike

An Orlando cupcake shop that was crowned Cupcake Wars champion on three separate occasions, has closed its shop due to a 60% rent hike, according to its owner.

After 15 years in business, Sweet by Holly has officially closed the doors on its location at Waterford Lakes Town Center (711 N Alafaya Trail).

According to owner Hollis Wilder, the business was forced to close its doors after discovering that the rent on its lease would be increased 60%.

“After 15 years in Waterford Lakes, Sweet by Holly will be closing its doors this Sunday, June 18, at 6 p.m. Due to an anticipated 60% rent increase, we are unable to renew this location,” reads a statement from the company’s Instagram page.

Known for its signature cupcakes, as well as cakes and slivercakes, the shop produced a variety of specialty treats and flavors that garnered it national attention. In fact, Wilder was the first three-time champion on the acclaimed Food Network series, Cupcake Wars, winning her first title with the show in 2009.

“Thank you for the incredible support over the years. It’s been an absolutely pleasure,” reads the statement from Wilder.

No additional information was provided as to whether or not the store will relocate and remain open at another site.
