Black bear spotted in Seminole County neighborhood

A black bear was spotted by local residents in a Seminole County neighborhood last week, joining a collection of similar sightings across the tri-county area in recent weeks.

According to the Winter Springs Police Department, a black bear was spotted trotting through the Glen Eagle subdivision in Winter Springs last week.

A resident of the neighborhood captured a photo of the large bear through her doorbell camera and shared it with local authorities.

The sighting follows weeks of similar sightings all across the tri-county area.

Last month, a bear was seen roaming the area around Lake Eola Park for multiple days.

In April, a black bear was spotted around College Park for several days as well. Although the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission was called for assistance, unfortunately, the bear was struck and killed by a car before it could be safely relocated.

The FFWCC says that black bears are most active in Florida throughout the late winter and spring.

Officials are warning residents that, although seeing a black bear may be a tempting opportunity to capture photo, you should exercise extreme caution around the creatures. Do not feed bears, and ensure that all garbage is secured in a shed or garage.

If you see a black bear in your neighborhood, call the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission at 888-404-3922.
