Kneeling man killed in Volusia hit-and-run, police looking for vehicle

Law enforcement authorities are asking the public for help to locate a vehicle wanted in connection with a hit and run accident that killed a pedestrian who was kneeling in the roadway.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the fatal accident took place near the intersection of State Road 472 and Durfey Avenue at around 4:13 a.m. on Sunday, July 9.

A male pedestrian, who has not been identified by police, was either laying or kneeling on the inside, eastbound lane of SR 472. The man was not in a marked crosswalk and was situated in the path of an unknown vehicle.

As a result, the man was struck by that vehicle. After the collision, the vehicle fled the scene.

The man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

There were no reported witnesses near the scene of the crash, and there is no further information regarding the vehicle involved or the driver.
