Sanford teen arrested for killing man walking with family

An 18-year-old turned himself in this week in connection with a fatal shooting that he is accused of perpetrating in Sanford.

Marquis Antwan Goodwine, Jr., turned himself in on Tuesday, July 18, without incident at the John E. Polk Correctional Facility. Goodwine, Jr. is charged with shooting and killing 18-year-old Lovell Brown.

According to authorities, the fatal shooting took place in the early morning hours of Sunday, July 9. Sanford Police Department officers responded to the area of 25th Street and Hartwell Avenue after receiving a call reporting a shooting with injuries at around 1:15 a.m.

Upon arrival, authorities located Brown suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries.

During their investigation, detectives determined that Brown was walking with family members to a nearby store when he encountered a group of individuals. One of the individuals, Goodwine, Jr., recognized Brown and the two engaged in a physical confrontation. During the course of the fight, Goodwine, Jr. brandished a firearm and shot Brown multiple times, according to witnesses. Goodwine, Jr. then fled from the scene on foot.

Goodwine, Jr. now faces a charge of homicide.
